UARA-STARS HEADING BACK TO BRISTOL

The UARA-STARS head back to Bristol with hopes of mother nature not dampening their qualifying efforts a second time.  A strong field of 48 have pre-registered for the return trip.

The show should bring all the excitement that fans look forward to at Bristol. Our previous event had 10 cautions and plenty of action.

Is it possible for Alex Yontz to make it two for two at Bristol?  Yontz who had seemed to have the bad luck monkey on his back has shaken that little critter off.  Yontz became the second two-time winner of 2007 with the UARA-STARS having also won recently at Ace Speedway in June.

Yontz commented after the race “Man, that was one great race.”

Mark Setzer has had an up and down year for 2007 but brought home an impressive 2nd place finish at Bristol event on July 28th.  Setzer will be determined to up that finish by one.   Setzer drives for the Mitch West team who has housed cars for past champions Danny O’Quinn (2002) and Lee Tissot (2003).

Series points leader B.J. Mackey came home 3rd in the last Bristol event and has hopes of improving that by two positions in this upcoming race.  Mackey has proved all year long that he is a force to be reckoned with.  Mackey takes care of his equipment and is in position for a win when the race starts to wind down.  Mackey has had a top ten finish 8 out 9 events thus far for 2007. Being consistent is a trait that Mackey excels in.

Jake Crum was the man on the move July 28 before loosing the lead to Yontz.  Crum definitely has a point to prove at Bristol and a grudge with turn four to dispose of following his last experience there.

Deborah Renshaw Parker will be the only female participant to attempt to make the field.

Renshaw had some very impressive practice times July 27th  & 28th.  Mother Nature however was on a wicked streak and Renshaw failed to start the event.

The UARA has had a rain policy in effect for the past five seasons in which the top 20 in points would start and the remainder of the field would be set by entry form receipt date.  If multiple entries were received on the same date then the points would fall back into place for entries on a given date. This policy has never had to be used until the Bristol 7/28/07 event.

After the Bristol event and reviewing this policy, the UARA has decided to make an amendment to the rule effective immediately.  In the event of qualifying being rained out but practice has been run, the top twenty spots will be determined by owner points. One champion provisional will be allowed followed by 6 of the remaining field set by entry date receipt and the final 5 of the remaining field determined by the fastest practice times.  If more than one past champion is present then the most recent champion will receive the provisional. This is based on a 32 car field.

In the event practice and qualifying are rained out, the top twenty spots will be determined by owner points. One champion provisional will be allowed followed by the remaining field being set by entry date receipt.  If more than one past champion is present then the most recent champion will receive the provisional.

There will be three UARA past champions present this week.  Matt McCall (2005), Lee Tissot (2003) and Jason York (2004).  The talent scheduled for this event is unlimited.  Wade Day, Brandon Dean, Justin Hill, Clint Mills and Jeffrey Earnhardt are just a few of drivers that were fast July 28th making a return engagement. Earnhardt who was at the first round practice session was not available for race day activities due to a prior engagement.

The action will begin with Grandstand Gates opening at 3pm and racing at 5pm.

The UARA-STARS will be in action again at Newport Speedway August 18, 2007 for

the Food City 150
