UARA Mourns the Loss of a Friend
The UARA family received the tragic news this afternoon that a dear friend Dwight Huffman has died in an auto accident near his place of business.
Dwight was a well know person in the racing circuit having housed cars for Pete Silva, Tony Warren, Dexter Canipe, Shawna Robinson, Dennis Setzer, Jimmy Spencer, Mark Setzer and a host of others.
Dwight was a car owner in the UARA series.  His last driver, one he was extremely proud of was his son Ashley who ran the UARA circuit in 2003 and 2004.  They graced the winners circle with the UARA in October 2004.
Dwight along with his wife Audrey, Ashley and son David have graced the racing circuit for many years.  He has worked and raced alongside some of the best of the best over the years.  The purple number 7 car was a standard at Hickory Motor Speedway season after season.
Huffman was an old school racer who worked hard on his equipment and fielded some of the best.  He was never hesitant to lend a hand to any of his fellow competitors.  He would share his knowledge openly.
Dwight could tell the best of racing tales to keep a listener’s attention for a long time.
At the UARA office he had a nickname of “Cooter”.  That came about after one of his visits one day when he opened up the back of his truck and low and behold there was a huge turtle (cooter) he had caught on some riverbank.  Dwight had many a tale about those adventures that would have us rolling with laughter
That bright red hair and big broad smile will be missed tremendously.
Our prayers are with the family.
To a dear friend—God’s Speed—you will be missed.

UARA Gearing Up for Season 7

The UARA-STARS are gearing up for another spectacular season in 2008.  Some very familiar faces will be returning this year along with many new faces that have some very impressive resumes on file.  There will also be new UARA faces on hand for 2008.  During the 2007 championship banquet, Alan Dietz presented the new Miss UARA: Brittany Poe.  Brittany is the younger of two daughters of Darrell and Shawn Poe. She as with her co-queen Tabitha Cloer is no stranger to the racing circuit.  We are very happy to have Brittany joining the  UARA-STARS family.  Another new addition to the UARA family will be announcer Doc Love.
Ross Furr has his mind set on being the first repeat champion for the UARA. Furr finished his 2007 Championship season with a top five average finish for the year.  Furr will have his job cut out for him in 2008 with the return of Jamey Caudill and Jamie Yelton, both past UARA regulars.  Caudill has more wins to his credit than any other UARA drivers to date.  He has  9 career UARA wins and 11 poles.  Jamie Yelton has 6 career UARA wins and 6 poles to his credit. Yelton finished second in points in 2004 and Caudill followed suit in 2005.  Both would like to increase that to a championship. A host of other drivers are aiming to gain their first championship or to land a strong top ten position come season end at Concord in October.
JR Motorsports will be running cars with the UARA this season, along with Larry McReynold’s son Brandon, Randy LaJoie’s son Corey and a host of other newcomers that will be highlighted in the weeks to come.
Young gun, Darrell Wallace Jr. will be heading the Melling Select Rookie challenge for 2008.
Wallace has had an impressive run with the UARA in his pre rookie qualifying session at the closure of the 2007 season with a second place finish at the Greenville race.
A new twist to the driver roster for 2008 will be the first full time female contender.Young 23 year old Tiffany Daniels is coming on board along with her brother Cliff.
Cliff is bringing an extensive resume to the table with him.
The UARA-STARS will begin their 2008 action at Concord Motorsport Park Saturday       March 29, 2008. The teams will have an open practice from noon until approximately 5 p.m. Friday March 28th to shake down their cars and prepare for the season opener.
It will prove to be an extremely competitive season, which is a norm for the UARA-STARS.
