UARA-STARS Drivers Making Big News
The UARA is very proud of all their drivers both past and present who competed
at Martinsville.
Reigning UARA Champion Jake Crum not only was the youngest UARA Champion every,
he is also the youngest driver to win the famed Martinsville Late Model Stock
race. Crum made that accomplishment Sunday October 4th. Crum was jubilant in
victory lane and was much deserving of such a great win. Team Crum has been
running on a limited schedule with the economy crunch and will definitely put
their winnings to good use for future runs. Crum who is preparing for 2010 said
that during the final laps his main focus was to pass Poole who was in the lead.
Close behind Crum was UARA regular Brandon McReynolds, followed by UARA current
Rookie point leader Brennan Poole . Deac McCaskill who on occasion visits with
the UARA was fourth followed by UARA standout Richard Boswell II. Other UARA
drivers that made the Martinsville event were former champions Jason York and
Matt McCall, former Rookie of the Year Matt DiBenedetto, Brandon Dean, Jamey
Caudill, Andy Loden, Alex Yontz, Garrett Campbell, Jamie Yelton, Paddy Rodenbeck
and Matt McCall.
Scott Turlington, Michael Rouse, Andy Loden and Darrell Wallace Jr. are also
2009 UARA standouts that attempted the Martinsville race.
McCall, Caudill, Campbell, Rodenbeck and Campbell are the top five point leaders
at this time with the UARA. Sixth place point contender Coleman Pressley went to
Greenville Pickens Speedway last Saturday with high hopes. He sat on the pole
but was the victim of a crash before competing lap two. Look for Pressley’s luck
to turn around soon. He definitely has the talent.
The UARA-STARS have one more week off before their next event at Hickory Motor
Speedway for the Banjo Matthews Memorial Scholarship event on October 18th. The
drivers will have a chance to hone their skills at Hickory this coming week at
the annual Fall Brawl hosted by Hickory Speedway.
Thanks to Race22.com for their comment following the Martinsville race:
The one thing about this race is that this shows without a doubt that the best
talent comes from the UARA-STARS .

UARA Busy
Preparing for the Final Three Events
The UARA-STARS drivers have a couple of weeks to
regroup and refocus their energy as the final three
events are coming into view.
The UARA is honored to announce they will be hosting
the Banjo Matthews Memorial race as our next event
at Hickory Motor Speedway, Sunday October 18, 2009.
Banjo Matthews was a very instrumental person in the
development of stock car racing. Banjo was one of
the foremost chassis builders in the founding days
of NASCAR. He was a major contributor to the safety
of stock cars and the making of the NASCAR
rulebooks.
UARA President Kerry Bodenhamer worked with Banjo
for 8 years. Banjo was his mentor and taught
Bodenhamer all the ways of chassis design and what
would make a car fast and safe. Bodenhamer learned
the old school way of racing and still enforces that
technology today within the UARA. Speed is
instrumental in racing but safety is first priority.
The Banjo Matthews Memorial race will be a benefit
event for the Buncombe County School Foundation who
has incepted the “Banjo Matthews Motorsports
Scholarship”. There will be guest on hand to sign
autographs and take donations for the scholarship.
The scholarship is founded to help young individuals
who plan to make a career in motorsports. It will be
applied for and issued through the school foundation
to encourage the continued growth of motorsports.
More announcements will be made on this exciting
event in the weeks to come.
The next to last UARA event will be held at Concord
Speedway on October 31, 2009 and the final event
will be at Kingsport Speedway November 7, 2009.
These will all be exciting events for the STARS
drivers. Winding down the championship on a neutral
track that no driver has an advantage at should make
for a most interesting finish to 2009.
Point leader Matt McCall and runner up Jamey Caudill
will be doing all in their power to have consistent
runs. Their plan will be to do that out front of the
pack. Garrett Campbell who has had a strong season
follows in third and is seeking his first UARA
victory. Campbell’s highest finish thus far is third
but he continually shows he has what it takes to
win. Paddy Rodenbeck, Brandon McReynolds, Coleman
Pressley, Kyle Grissom, Brennan Poole, Scott
Turlington and Owen Kelly round out the top ten.
Poole is the leading rookie and fellow rookie
Michael Rouse has his sights on gaining a top
ten-point finish. Rouse is currently in eleventh
place in points.
With local tracks completing their point races many
of those drivers will start coming on board to
challenge the STARS drivers and a challenge it will
be.
