Coleman Pressley Claims UARA Season Finale
Matt McCall Wins UARA Championship
Brennan Poole Wins UARA Rookie of the Year

On a bright sunny Saturday afternoon at Concord Speedway the UARA season finale took place with the UARA Championship on the line. Brandon McReynolds set a Sunoco pole time of 16.226. This time in fact was quicker time than he had set two weeks prior of a 16.342 at a rainout. Kyle Grissom set the KLB Race Cars & Parts outside pole time of 16.323.

The field takes the green and it is McReynolds who sets sail and doesn’t look back. On lap four Ryan Robertson, Clint King and Michael Rouse are running three deep. There is some contact but all continue on with no incident.

Paddy Rodenbeck and Matt McCall are swapping positions back and forth but McCall will claim third place at lap 11. Clint Mills and Robertson will also be battling for position on lap 14. Three laps later it is Mills, Brennan Poole, Robertson and Rouse all in a serious battle.

Rookie Poole is coming to the front from the rear, after having to use a provisional starting position. He blew an engine early in the day and did not qualify. This did not deter the young challenger who has a never give up attitude and always a smile on his face.

The first caution flies as Robertson spins in turn three on lap 23. By this time Poole has progressed from 22nd to 15th. When the green flies again the field takes flight and mid-pack it will be Kenny Brooks, Robertson, Garrett Campbell and King doing some serious racing for position as McReynolds continues to dominate up front.

Caution two will fall on lap 36 as Clint King slams into the front stretch wall. King was making his debut start with the UARA. Back to green it remains McReynolds on the point with Grissom/McCall plus Rodenbeck/Brandon Dean all doing battle for positions. These four will battle back and forth. Grissom will be second on lap 43, then McCall on lap 44. Back to Grissom on lap 45 then McCall will finally land it on lap 49. Rodenbeck will claim fourth before finally relinquishing that position to Dean on lap 48.

McReynolds continues to lead the field as Dean slows on the track apparently a victim of a flat tire bringing out caution three. The field goes green again and then the bizarre things begin to happen in this event. The car of second place point contender Jamey Caudill heads to the pits and parks next to his hauler on lap 61. Caudill heads inside the rig apparently done for the day.
Here is where it gets really interesting. Caution four flies as the machine of point leader Matt McCall erupts in smoke and he then heads to the attention of his crew but to no avail. The track is put under a red flag condition to clean up the mess. During this caution period Caudill hurries out of his hauler and gets back into his machine, buckles up and heads back out on the track.

McReynolds who is still dominating the field has his game on but all eyes are on Caudill and pencils are in a scurry trying to decided where he needs to finish to clinch the championship as the McCall team are in misbelief at their misfortune. Well, folks it doesn’t end here.
Scott Turlington, Chad Mullis and Brandon Dean are running three deep for position back in the pack with Caudill bearing down. Up front it’s McReynolds, Grissom, Rodenbeck, Pressley, Poole, Greg Peterson, Newton, Mills, Rouse and Matt Kurzejewski zooming right along.

Caution five will fly as the Caudill machine also goes up in smoke on lap 104 in turn two. For the second and final time Caudill will go to the pits with his day and his hopes of a UARA championship gone up in smoke. During this caution period the field is once again red flagged. The craziness continues as McReynolds heads to the pits with a flat tire during this caution.

This will give the lead to Grissom followed by Rodenbeck, Pressley, Poole and Newton. Back to green the battle for the lead really gets serious. Rodenbeck is very loose but hanging on as he is pressured by Pressley. These two will put on a valiant battle with Pressley eventually claiming position two on lap 122. Rodenbeck’s worries don’t end there, as Poole and Newton are also there to put the pressure on. Poole will gain the spot on lap 125. As before mentioned Rodebeck was very loose. Newton comes along with a never give up attitude. He gets below Rodenbeck and Rodenbeck spins between turns 1 and 2. As Rodenbeck spins the Kurzejewski car comes along and also spins and hits the outside wall. This will bring out the final caution of the day.

Once again during the caution the leader, Grissom and Rodenbeck both head to the pits for the quick attention of their crews. Grissom also had a tire issue. The lead now goes to Pressley.

When the green flies it is Pressley and Poole that have the fans on their feet as they do the side by side thing thrilling the crowd. Rouse, Campbell and former UARA Rookie of the Year Matt DiBenedetto are running three deep around the turns. DiBenedetto will claim the spot.

Pressley will come home victorious with Poole, Newton, Mills and DiBenedetto finishing as the top five. Clint Mills will be very happy with his fourth place finish. On the October 31 original race date Mills had engine problems etc and didn’t make it to the track for practice or qualifying.

The Comp Cams Engine Builder of the Race will once again go to General Motors.

Brennan Poole was the Rookie of the race also clinching the Rookie of the Year title.

Matt DiBenedetto who said post race that he had a really great time running with the UARA again was the B Square Clean Sweep winner having started and finished in 5th position.
DiBenedetto plans on running more UARA events next year as his busy schedule allows.
Once again the Aluminum Racing Products award will be presented to Jamey Caudill.

The G Force Shift of the Race will also go to Poole who showed just how tough he could be on the racing circuit.
